Age: 9

One of the youngest plaintiffs in this constitutional climate lawsuit, Jeff was born in Montana and loves to be outside, especially camping and hiking with his family, including his younger brother Nate. However, Jeff was born with pulmonary sequestration, which means that his lungs are particularly at risk during the fire season in Montana, which has increased in length and severity. This significantly limits the amount of time he can spend outdoors with his family.

In the summer of 2021, Jeff was sent home from day camp twice due to wildfire-related sickness. His mother says she understood he was at increased risk because of his medical condition but that the climate crisis is increasingly exposing him to preventable harmful conditions that simply shouldn’t exist.
