CURRICULUM

Our Children’s Trust is excited to share free curricula for high school teachers.

Federal: Juliana v. United States

Making the Case for Science-Based Climate Action - focuses on Juliana v. United States, the groundbreaking youth-led, scientist-backed constitutional climate lawsuit currently working its way through the federal courts. Built by and for educators, this interactive five-day lesson plan provides teachers with lecture notes, slides, activities, role-playing opportunities, and worksheets to engage students in lessons on civics, climate science, the law, current events, and youth-led movements. This curriculum can be taught in a five-day sequence or, alternatively, utilized as stand-alone activities and lessons to fit any classroom schedule.

Oregon: Chernaik v. Brown

The Chernaik v. Brown curriculum is based on the youth climate lawsuit filed by two young Oregonians against the State of Oregon, recently argued before the Oregon Supreme Court on November 13, 2019. This curriculum consists of three lessons where teachers can engage students in lessons on current events, civics, climate science, youth-led movements, and the law. As additional versions of this curriculum for other state cases are designed, they will be added to this page.

We hope that students everywhere will have an opportunity to learn more about landmark youth-led climate change litigation so:
