Join Young People in Alaska Who are Filing a New Climate Lawsuit Against Their State Government!
Our Children’s Trust has been supporting young people in Alaska since 2011, most recently in the youth-led climate case Sagoonick v. State of Alaska.
In 2023, young people in Alaska, supported by leading climate scientists and Our Children’s Trust attorneys, will be filing a new lawsuit against the State of Alaska for its actions that worsen Alaska’s climate crisis in violation of youth’s constitutional rights.
Young people are filing this lawsuit because the Alaska Constitution protects the rights of all Alaskans to a safe climate and equal access to the natural resources on which their lives, health, and cultures depend. Through the State of Alaska’s actions in promoting fossil fuels, the State government is causing and contributing to Alaska’s climate crisis, violating the constitutional rights of young Alaskans. Alaska’s constitution does not allow the state government to prioritize fossil fuels above the health, safety, cultures, and future of Alaska’s youth.
